Eric Dickerson made an appearance on the All the Smoke Podcast on Thursday, and he had some poignant memories about the late OJ Simpson.

The two have been considered among the greatest running backs in history, with Simpson being the first-ever player to rush for over 2,000 yards and Dickerson holding the all-time single-season rushing record at 2,105 yards.

And they met at times, the first time being in the 1970s when Dickerson was a teenager. The USC Trojans were playing the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl when he approached Simpson and said:

"You're my favorite player. ... I'd like to one day break your record."

Eric Dickerson speaks up on Reggie White; names favorite current running backs

In the same podcast appearance, Eric Dickerson shared his thoughts on another late Hall of Famer in defensive end Reggie White (segment starts at 38:12 in the video below):

"First of all, he's a great human being, such a nice guy. But he'd hit you. God bless you. I mean, he was a beast. ...Long arms, didn't wear nothing on his arms, played every down. Was nothing fancy about him. Just a tough real football player. I tell these young kids, 'You want to look at a defensive lineman, look at Reggie White.'"

He was also asked who his favorite current running backs were. The first name he mentioned was Derrick Henry (from 47:41):

"I think he's my favorite because he's a big back like me."

He continued:

"I like Saquon (Barkley) now, and I liked him before. I just thought he never would be the guy that he could have been playing with the Giants. I love watching him play, he's exciting. ...Alvin Kamara, another good back."

He also spoke up on the importance of the fullback, a heavier, blocking-oriented offshoot of the position that has seen its usage and prominence decrease in the current pass-oriented era (at 48:33):

"Very important. I mean, fullback blows holes open for the running back. When I saw San Francisco do it last year and the year before, (I said) that's important."
