The trade deadline is fast approaching, and the Miami Dolphins might be open to parting with one of their featured defensive players. With the team currently 2-7 on the season, they may be sellers rather than buyers heading into the Nov. 4 deadline.

Among the names being tossed around is Minkah Fitzpatrick, whom the Dolphins only reacquired in late June, sending Jalen Ramsey the other way. Fitzpatrick is a three-time All-Pro safety who has been selected to five Pro Bowls and will undoubtedly generate plenty of interest from other teams. Where he ends up, though, is anybody’s guess.

Here are the top five landing spots for the All-American.

#1 Detroit Lions

The Super Bowl window for the Detroit Lions is now, and an experienced defensive player with the capabilities of Fitzpatrick would be a welcome addition to Dan Campbell’s team. The Lions locked up Aidan Hutchinson to a long-term deal, but as dominant as he is on the defensive line, they could use some help in the secondary.

Detroit cannot rely exclusively on sacks and an explosive offense to get to the big game; they need better pass coverage. They have allowed over 200 passing yards per game so far in 2025.

#2 Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills have come close to the Super Bowl multiple times in recent seasons. For as explosive an offense as they have had, they have still fallen short time and again to the Kansas City Chiefs.

While Josh Allen has often played at a high level in those playoff games with KC, the Bills’ secondary hasn’t been able to make as many plays.

The ceiling for the Bills is a Super Bowl, and adding a player like Fitzpatrick, who is a game-changer, could prove very valuable in the postseason.

#3 Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh is a familiar place for Fitzpatrick, having played there for over five seasons. As we have come to expect, Mike Tomlin’s group are in the postseason mix and could use more help in the cover game.

The team has been cycling through safeties, but even the likes of Kyle Duggar have underwhelmed. Fitzpatrick can still get the job done, plus he’s a face Tomlin knows well.

Adjusting to the Steelers’ system should be relatively straightforward for him.

#4 Green Bay Packers

Green Bay is first in the NFC North and looks poised to be in Super Bowl contention this season. The Packers made a big-time move just ahead of the season by adding Micah Parsons to their pass rush. That was a clear statement that they are ready to win and to do it now.

They need more help in the pass coverage game, however, and Fitzpatrick helps tremendously in that department. He’s fast, aggressive and is a heavy hitter who should be able to make game-changing plays that could turn the tide in Green Bay’s favour.

#5 Dallas Cowboys

The Micah Parsons trade gave Jerry Jones a lot of room to work with, and his Dallas Cowboys are still in the playoff hunt. He’s got two solid corners in Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, but the safety position is one he should address.

Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker have not often been 100% effective, but even when they are, they haven’t produced as much as one would have hoped. Fitzpatrick fills a big hole in the Cowboys’ defense as he’s strong in pass breakups and always makes plenty of tackles.
