During the San Francisco 49ers-Carolina Panthers game on Monday, Tre’Von Moehrig allegedly struck Jauan Jennings in the groin with a closed-fist punch. The receiver retaliated with punches aimed at Moehrig’s facemask after the final whistle. The 49ers won 29-9.San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about incident in the postgame press conference. He criticized the Carolina safety's actions and praised Jennings for remaining level-headed.."Yeah, the guy took a cheap shot and hit him in the balls," Shanahan said. "I was real proud of Jauan for not losing his mind out there and and get him to the sideline.Jennings defended himself to reporters."I was just responding to some childish behavior," Jennings said.The punch was unexpected for the wide receiver."That was just out of nowhere," Jennings said. "I think it's probably just like I was saying, just the history of me playing ball. I play hard. I'm physically stronger than a lot of DBs out there and a lot of things happen in between the whistles. With me at least."Meanwhile, Moehrig said Jennings was pushing him and “talking crazy” during the game.“He was just doing some extra stuff after the play,” Moehrig said. “I’ll take that one. It wasn’t just frustration. It was isolated.”Moehrig was also asked if his punch was justified.“It is what it is,” Moehrig said.Kyle Shanahan defends Brock Purdy after three-interception first half vs. PanthersKyle Shanahan backed Brock Purdy after the quarterback threw interceptions on three straight drives in the first half of the game versus the Panthers. The coach stressed that the mistakes were due to timing, not poor decision-making.“It makes me a lot more hesitant if they’re all bad decisions," Shanahan said during the postgame presser. “But he was seeing it right. They were all good decisions. He just missed the throw on them. Just a hair late. And when you’re a hair late on stuff, you can’t throw behind (your receivers).”Purdy has played just four games this season, completing 67.7% of his passes for 786 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s battling a turf-toe injury and faces questions about his timing and ability to stay healthy.The San Francisco 49ers (8-4) are third in the NFC West. They are set to face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
