Justin Jefferson has come forward to extend his support to Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy amid his on-field struggles. During Thursday's interaction with the press, the sixth-year wide receiver talked about the brutal criticism and hate the rookie quarterback has received for his underwhelming performance.

Jefferson said that J.J. McCarthy is handling the hate and criticism professionally. At the same time, the wide receiver is ready to help out his young quarterback in any way that he can.

"I feel like he handled it very well," Jefferson said about McCarthy's preparation for his first game at Lambeau field. "Just not really thinking about the negative. Just not really thinking about the past game. Just trying to move forward and more of a focus on how he can improve, how he can better operate the offense, and of course, lead us to more touchdowns and more drives to eventually win the game at the end of the day.

"Just talking to him and being on his shoulder. Just making sure mentally that he's got his head all right. I just know with all of the criticism and all of hte hateful messages he's probably been getting, he can cut on the TV on SportsCenter, they can talk negatively about him. Just trying to be that person for him that he can always lean on and talk to. But it's all just about coming out here every day and having the mindset of getting better and taking one play at a time."

J.J. McCarthy missed out on the entirety of the 2024 campaign because of a season-ending injury. He returned this year as the starting quarterback of the Vikings. However, the quarterback injured himself once again in Week 2 against the Falcons.

This resulted in Carson Wentz taking over as the QB1. J.J. McCarthy made his return to the field in Week 9, where he helped his team to a 27-24 victory over the Detroit Lions. However, the Vikings have lost the past two games, raising questions about the quarterback's fit with the team.

In five games, McCarthy has tallied 842 yards and six TDs passing. The quarterback's performance has also affected Justin Jefferson's productivity on the field because of the lack of catchable passes. In 10 games, the WR has recorded 747 yards and two touchdowns receiving with 56 receptions to his name.

Richard Sherman shares his brutally honest assessment of J.J. McCarthy

During last Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Chicago Bears, J.J. McCarthy completed 16 of 32 passes for 150 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

After the game, retired Super Bowl champion Richard Sherman did not mince his words when criticizing the Vikings quarterback's game.

"I'm old enough to remember the comments I got when I told folks I wasn't sure if McCarthy was the answer and they let a good quarter fool them. Football isn;t an exact science by any means but when your set up with one of the best play callers in football and one of the best WRs usually success can be manufactured," Sherman tweeted.

The Vikings are 4-6 heading into Sunday's game against the Packers (6-3). Can McCarthy bring an end to his team's two-game losing streak in Week 12?
