A former Philadelphia Eagle has his doubts about the team’s current offense. That has been widely discussed for weeks, and for Chris Long, it could cost them a chance to repeat as Super Bowl champions. While he says you can win with a defense that’s much stronger than the offense, the way the Eagles are playing currently, when they have the ball, is concerning.

“If you’re going to be a defensive football team. You certainly can’t turn it over five times. You have to be able to run the football, and you can’t be bottom five in the league in three and outs,” said the former Eagles defensive end (Time Stamp 1:16).

In their loss on Monday to the Los Angeles Chargers, Jalen Hurts threw a career-high four interceptions. At the moment, the Eagles are 22nd in the NFL for team rushing, averaging 110.5 yards per game. Last season, they were second in that category with a 197.3-yard average. Saquon Barkley, meanwhile, was the league’s leading rusher with 2,005 yards. An Eagles radio host listed Jalen Hurts as their main problem offensively.

“You can be consistently mediocre with a top 10 defense, but what you can’t be is up and down, low floor, turnovers, no run game. Not good enough, man,” Long concluded (Time Stamp 1:33).

Nick Sirianni is optimistic about the Eagles' offense

A lot of the blame for the offense has centered on Kevin Patullo, who’s struggled to live up to the legacy Kellen Moore left as this team's offensive coordinator. That has prompted some to suggest Nick Sirianni should be calling the shots on that side of the ball.

Sirianni said on Monday that the offense was his focus heading into the Chargers game.

“My attention goes to places that I feel like it needs to go. This week was with the offense,” Sirianni told NBC.

He says he’ll continue to go in there and help the team offensively. He says he was happy with what the offense showed on Monday night.

“Again, I thought we moved the ball and did a lot of good things today.”

He emphasized the importance of finishing drives, saying they’ll get back to work on improving in that department while also taking better care of the football.

Offensively, this season, the Eagles have averaged 309.4 yards per game. In 2024, that average was at 367.2.
