Josh Allen shares honest feelings about Brian Daboll as ex-Giants HC looks for new job

Josh Allen supported Brian Daboll after the former New York Giants coach was dismissed. The Buffalo Bills quarterback reflected on him guiding his early NFL development.

Allen and Daboll worked together for four seasons in Buffalo. Daboll served as the offensive coordinator throughout Allen’s formative years. Their partnership ended when he accepted the Giants coaching job in 2022.

The reigning NFL MVP shared his thoughts about Daboll on Wednesday, two days after New York parted ways with him.

“I love the guy,” Allen told reporters. “Still got a lot of love for Coach Daboll.”

Allen previously credited Daboll with helping him develop the discipline and decision-making necessary to thrive at the NFL level.

Brian Daboll’s departure for the New York Giants in 2022 triggered several changes in Buffalo’s offensive operation that continued into subsequent seasons. The transitions came with high points but also stretches in which the offense struggled to find rhythm.

The Bills' latest setback came on Sunday via a loss to Miami. Their offense was held off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter.

Bills coach Sean McDermott addressed reunion speculation between Allen and Daboll on Monday. He acknowledged Daboll’s coaching ability while reiterating his confidence in Buffalo offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

“Yeah, no, I understand why you’re asking that," McDermott told reporters. "Brian’s a great coach. Unfortunate to see that happen to him. At this point, that’s not under any type of consideration.

“Joe’s a good coach. He really is. We’ve got a really good offensive staff. They’ve had really good games. You’re going to have some games you want back, some play calls you want back.”

Daboll exits New York after a tenure that began with a promising postseason run but unraveled over the past two years. His first season included a playoff victory, but the team’s inability to close games and develop long-term consistency ultimately led to the change in direction. The Giants elevated offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to interim coach following Daboll’s dismissal.
