New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey shed light on his decision to keep running back Breece Hall after parting ways with two of his defensive cornerstones ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.

Mougey moved All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys in separate deals.

Mougey said his approach was rooted in what Hall brings to the field over the remainder of the season.

"Through these processes, we talk about a lot of things and we field a lot of calls and we've got values, and Breece is a talented player," Mougey told reporters. "He's going to help us compete and win games the rest of the season."

Gardner’s trade brought back two first-round picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, while Williams’ move to Dallas returned additional draft capital.

The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly reached out to the Jets before the deadline with a fourth-round offer for Breece Hall. However, New York held firm on a higher asking price, according to SNY's Connor Hughes. The team valued him at no less than a third-round pick and refused to settle for less.

"With Breece Hall, there was an offer on the table for a fourth-round pick for Breece Hall," Hughes said on Tuesday. "I was told it was from the Kansas City Chiefs that were willing to trade for Breece Hall. The Jets were steadfast in wanting a third."

Hall has recorded 581 rushing yards and 178 receiving yards with two touchdowns through eight games. His rookie contract runs through the end of the campaign, making him a pending free agent in the offseason.

Kansas City’s interest reportedly stemmed from the absence of Isiah Pacheco, who is dealing with a knee injury. Hall’s dual-threat ability as both runner and receiver would've added another dynamic weapon to Andy Reid’s offense.

The Jets will visit Cleveland on Sunday in their first game since the roster shake-up.
