Jerry Jones offered his view on the trade acquisition of Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday. The Dallas Cowboys owner confirmed on a radio interview that the team has sent a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Bengals in exchange for the linebacker.

While the trade hasn't excited many fans and analysts amid the Cowboys' struggle on defense, Jones broke down the reasoning behind the move. The owner, who doubles as the general manager, believes Wilson can make an immediate impact on the Cowboys’ defense.

“Some guys have the ability to see a certain key and at the same time take a step up in the hole,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “He knows how to get in the gaps right now … For what we need right now, he can come in immediately and help us at linebacker.”

Despite Jerry Jones’ confidence in Logan Wilson's ability, a host of experts have rated the trade deal poorly. Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated gave the Cowboys a D, believing it's not worth it for the team to surrender draft picks, as it's impossible for a player to make a difference.

“All that said, Dallas shouldn’t be giving up any draft capital,” Verderame wrote. “The Cowboys are 3–5–1, especially after losing at home on Monday night to the Cardinals. Dallas sits in purgatory, too talented to completely bottom out while also having far too many holes on its roster to legitimately compete for a playoff spot.”

Jerry Jones regrets the defensive coordinator changes

Following the Dallas Cowboys’ loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night, the scheme under defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has come under fire. Speaking on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Jerry Jones noted he wished he hadn't made some changes in the past three years.

"I've errored over the last three years with the changing of defensive coordinators or defensive philosophies or the adjustments there,” Jones said. “When I look back, if I see one thing that I had to do over again, I would've tried to not change out our coordinator every year over the last three years. Continuity, I know better.”

The Cowboys are on bye this week and are believed to be currently active in securing trade acquisitions as the deadline approaches. However, the problem with the team seems to be beyond what Jerry Jones can solve by bringing in a couple of players via trade. It's probably another season to forget for Dallas fans.
