Jayden Daniels is chomping at the bit to get back on the field this season. Last season’s Offensive Rookie of the Year suffered a dislocated elbow on November 2 in their 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Despite the team being 3-8 and unlikely to make the playoffs, the second-year quarterback wants to see some action again in 2025.“If I’m back out there and I’m healthy and ready to go, I want to be out there,” Daniels said to the media on Tuesday (Time Stamp 0:35).Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn has said he is set to return to practice this week but has not yet been cleared for contact. Daniels says that he’s been throwing but wouldn’t put a timetable on when he may be ready to return. His replacement, Marcus Mariota, has started the last two games, going 20/30 for 213 yards, with a touchdown and an interception in their narrow 16-13 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins in their previous game.Daniels has featured in six games this season, completing 62.5% of his passes for 1,184 yards, with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. The Commanders are on a six-game losing streak, putting them third in the NFC East.Washington currently sit 17th in the NFL in offensive yards per game, averaging 330.2. They will aim to end their six-game slide on Sunday when they battle the Denver Broncos.Daniels is a long shot to play this weekendSeeing Daniels back at practice is a welcome sight for Commander fans, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be in uniform when they take to the field on Sunday. While he didn’t suffer any structural damage to his elbow, it doesn’t seem like fans will see him play against the Broncos. Daniels has already missed five games this season due to three different injuries, and there is concern that bringing him back too soon could damage him in the long term. With the Commanders’ current record as well, it’s believed that Quinn will use every precaution to keep Daniels out unless he’s 100%. Quinn was ripped by the team’s former quarterback Robert Griffin III for keeping Daniels in their game against Seattle.Noah Brown and Terry McLaurin have missed significant time due to injuries, but are both nearing a return, leading some to speculate that Quinn may want to bring Daniels in sooner than expected. At the same time, neither of them is reportedly 100% so Washington fans will likely have to deal with Mariota under center on Sunday.
