Skattebo established himself as one of New York's most dependable players. He injured his ankle when he jumped to catch a short pass from Dart.

Philadelphia linebacker Zach Baun tackled Skattebo from behind, and he landed badly with his leg twisted underneath him. He immediately grabbed his ankle and was visibly in pain. Medical staff rushed over, and Skattebo was taken off the field with an air cast. He had surgery at a hospital in Philadelphia later in the evening.

Early reports confirmed that the procedure was successful. However, his recovery timeline will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Before posting on Instagram, Dart, who was named the Giants’ QB1 on Sept. 24, did not hold back his emotions after witnessing the injury.

“I was devastated,” Dart said, via The Athletic’s Charlotte Carroll. “It’s my boy, man, so seeing him go down and obviously reacting to what happened, that sucks. It’s the worst part of this game.”

Skattebo was one of the few bright spots in a challenging year for the Giants. He was picked in the fourth round out of Arizona State.

New York has a big hole to fill and is struggling with a 2-6 record. The loss to the Eagles was its second in a row, and the team is last in the NFC East.

The Giants have been outscored 215-173 this season.

“I hate losing. I’m not used to it. I’m not gonna accept. I’m not going to be OK with it, and we as a team can’t be OK with it. We have to figure this out.”

Dart added that the team worked hard all week and came in ready, making the defeat more disappointing.

The Giants' next game is on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers at MetLife Stadium.
