Former sports analyst Jason Whitlock has taken a sarcastic dig at Shedeur Sanders’ fans ahead of the quarterback’s first NFL start. Sanders was handed his NFL debut during the Cleveland Browns’ loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday.

The quarterback’s debut was underwhelming, prompting reactions from fans, with some bemoaning Kevin Stefanski allegedly setting him up. With Dillon Gabriel on concussion protocol, the Colorado alum is set to get his first NFL start against the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday. Probably anticipating another under-par performance from Sanders, Whitlock hit at his fanbase in an X post where he wrote:

“Help me formulate the top 10 excuses Shedeur Sexuals will roll out next week if Shedeur plays poorly.”

He went on:

“No. 1 will be he entered the game with the most pressure of any rookie QB in NFL history….”

Shedeur Sanders replaced an injured Dillon Gabriel in the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Ravens. He went 4-of-16 for 47 yards and an interception while getting sacked twice.

Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is one of the loudest voices critical of Stefanski’s intention towards Sanders. Speaking on ESPN’s First Take earlier this week, Newton accused the coach of setting the quarterback up to fail. He said:

“I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: I do not think Kevin Stefanski wants Shedeur Sanders to succeed in Cleveland. … If I’m Shedeur, or if I’m a Shedeur Sanders fan, I would not want him to take the field because that’s going to consistently be the display we’re going to see.”

Coach Prime has emotional reaction to Shedeur Sanders’ NFL debut

It was an emotional moment when Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders learned about his son’s NFL debut on Sunday. The Pro Football Hall of Famer has coached Shedeur Sanders since high school, watching closely as he developed into an NFL player. Sharing his reaction on hearing the news of his debut, the Colorado football head coach said:

“I was in tears. (He) called me screaming, ‘Man, I’m crying right now! Can you leave me alone? Leave me alone, leave me alone.’”

Fans will be counting on Sanders to prove the naysayers wrong when he leads the Browns’ offense against the Raiders on Sunday. The Browns will be searching for their third win of this campaign on Sunday.

Sanders will be the third quarterback to start for the Browns this season after Joe Flacco and Gabriel.
