Jason Kelce gave a blunt assessment on Wednesday about the state of defense in the NFC East.
"NFC East might have three of the worst four or five defenses in the NFL," Kelce said (25:27), via the "New Heights" podcast. "I mean, the Bengals are the only ones competing right now with the Commanders, Cowboys and Giants. Who else is worse on defense? I don't know. Like, it's just bad."
The statistics back up Kelce's comments. The Dallas Cowboys, once renowned for their elite defense, have suffered a significant decline. Micah Parsons' departure has left the team looking for defensive stability and a reliable linebacker. Dallas allows nearly 397 yards per game, ranking among the bottom five in the league.
The New York Giants have surrendered 26.9 points per game and rank 29th in total defense. The Washington Commanders are close behind, giving up over 377 yards per game, a sign of regression under Dan Quinn.

Only the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce’s former team, have remained competitive defensively, although they’ve struggled with consistency in pass coverage. They’re allowing 23.1 points and 225 passing yards per game.
The Eagles (6-2) lead the division, with the Cowboys (3-5) trailing them. The Commanders (3-5) continue to show flashes of promise but lack cohesion. Meanwhile, the New York Giants (2-6) are at the bottom, weighed down by injuries and poor defensive execution.
Jason Kelce urges Chiefs to revive the 'tush push,' says Patrick Mahomes' 'funky knees' prevent it
Jason Kelce believes the Kansas City Chiefs are missing out by not using the “tush push” near the goal line
“We’ve got to be able to "tush push" that thing in," Kelce said on Wednesday, via the "New Heights" podcast. "Josh Allen, "tush push." Philadelphia Eagles, that’s how we score every time we get to the 1-yard line.”
The Chiefs haven’t run a quarterback sneak since October 2019, when Patrick Mahomes dislocated his kneecap. Kelce acknowledged that history.
“I get that Pat can’t do the "tush push" because he’s got funky knees," Kelce said. "We’ve got to have somebody doing the "tush push," damn it.”
Travis Kelce countered with a more straightforward fix.
“Or we just give the ball to Kareem Hunt, who’s one of the best right now at short-yardage situations,” Travis said.
The Chiefs (5-4) are third in the AFC West and are coming off a 28-21 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
