Running back J.K. Dobbins has made it clear he wants to stay in Denver beyond this season. The 26-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Broncos in June worth $2.065 million, with incentives up to $2.5 million.

“Far as extension and stuff like that, that doesn’t cross my mind,” Dobbins said Thursday, via Luca Evans of The Denver Post. “But, me just wanting to be here in Denver—yes. I hope to end my career here and be here for the rest of my time in the NFL.”

Dobbins said the connection he feels with the organization goes beyond football.

“I want to be in Denver,” Dobbins added. “I love it. I love the fanbase. I think the fanbase and I have a connection. Love my teammates. And I also love Sean Payton. I love the owners.”

J.K. Dobbins has been one of the league’s most productive rushers through eight weeks. Dobbins has rushed for 634 yards in eight games, ranking No. 3 in the NFL. He has marked the best start by a Broncos running back since Clinton Portis’ 793-yard stretch in 2003. He averages 5.3 yards per carry.

After years of injuries that stalled his career in Baltimore and Los Angeles, Dobbins appears rejuvenated under Sean Payton. Injuries in 2022 and 2023 limited Dobbins’ ability to stay on the field, but his bounce-back season has drawn attention across the league. If the Broncos choose not to extend him, the veteran runner is expected to draw significant interest when he becomes a free agent in 2026.

J.K. Dobbins delivered 111 yards against the Cowboys, Broncos look ahead to face Texans' defence

J.K. Dobbins rushed 15 times for 111 yards in the Denver Broncos’ 44-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in Week 8. His 7.4 yards per carry showed his bounce-back from earlier in the season, when his average dipped as low as 2.9 yards per rush.

Looking ahead to Week 9, Dobbins and the Broncos face the Houston Texans, whose defense ranks No. 1 in the NFL in both scoring and total yards allowed. For Dobbins, the challenge will be to continue controlling the ground game and give the Broncos a stable platform on the road. His recent form suggests he is set up to do just that.

The Denver Broncos are currently 6-2 and lead the AFC West. Their defense ranks No. 4 in the NFL in points allowed (18.1 per game) while the offense averages about 23.3 points per game (17th).
