Philadelphia Eagle fans and former players are growing extremely frustrated with the offense.

In particular, Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, two keys to their Super Bowl last season, are going through some frustrating times of late. On the latest episode of “New Heights,” former Eagles center Jason Kelce says it’s worrying to see how the offense has spiralled.

“We got to find a way to get this offense going… We have to do things to figure this out… We have to be way better,” said Kelce (Time Stamp 28:17).

Last week, the offense racked up just 124 passing yards, with Hurts throwing for under 200 yards for a third straight game.

For Kelce, it’s imperative that the rushing attack, including Barkley, gets better in a hurry.

“We have to get the ground game going. Everybody wants to talk about this year’s offense versus last year’s offense… The number one difference is that we can’t run the football,” added Kelce (Time Stamp 28:32).

Barkley, who led the league with 2,005 yards in 2024, is averaging just 3.8 yards per carry this season. In 2024, he had 5.8 yards per carry.

“If you look back on Nick Sirianni’s entire existence in Philadelphia, the Eagles have been a top-five to top-seven rushing team every year in the NFL. We are not there right now, and that’s the biggest thing that makes throwing the ball so much freaking hard,” Kelce went on to say (Time Stamp 29:00).

As a team, the Eagles are averaging the fifth-fewest rushing yards per game at 184.9. With the ground game struggling, Hurts has had to go to the air more often, with over 25 pass attempts in their last two games.

Former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb has said the team’s offense at the moment is boring.

Hurts is the other big rushing threat, and he’s not been productive in that department either, averaging 3.6 yards per carry this season, the lowest of his NFL career.

Jalen Hurts’ saving grace

While Hurts and Barkley are taking a lot of the blame, the former has one big thing going for him. The reigning Super Bowl MVP has been elite when he takes a deep shot down the field. On throws of 20+ yards this season, he’s tossed seven touchdowns, without a single interception.

His passer rating on long bombs is an impressive 128.2. That should make one wonder why the team has been so conservative on offense this season. When you add to that the speed and game-changing ability of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, it’s equally puzzling.

The good news for Philly is the poor offense hasn’t affected them much at the end of the day.

The reigning Super Bowl champions are 8-2 and riding a four-game winning streak at the moment.
