Sanders outshone fellow rookie Cam Ward, the No. 1 pick of this year's draft, by completing 23 of 42 attempts for 364 passing yards, throwing three touchdowns, one interception and a rushing touchdown.

Despite his strong performance, Sanders was taken off the field on the second two-point attempt in the fourth quarter. The rookie quarterback said it was all according to plan.

"I would (always) wish to have the ball in my hand ... of course you would want to, but we executed it in practice and we just didn’t seem to this day. I would never go against what the call was or anything," Sanders said.

His 364 yards are the third-most by a Browns rookie in a game, behind Baker Mayfield’s 397 and 376 yards.

Veteran Browns teammate and six-time Pro Bowler Myles Garrett praised Sanders for his best performance of his NFL career so far.

“He came up big when we needed him to,” Garrett said. “There’s going to be some ups and downs for anyone, especially a rookie. But he looked composed, he escaped out of some sacks, broke the pocket, made some big-time plays and just looking for him to continue to grow.”

Although the Browns slipped to their 10th loss of the season, Sanders' performance has likely guaranteed him the starting role for the remaining games this season.
