Saquon Barkley expressed his frustration after the Eagles blew a 21-point lead during the 24-21 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. He rushed 10 times for 22 yards, which was his lowest output in a game with at least 10 carries since 2022.The running back discussed his performance after the game. However, his comments hinted at deeper issues with how Philadelphia offense coordinator Kevin Patullo has been utilizing him. When asked how the team should have played when Dallas was attempting a comeback, he admitted that he and his teammates had to respond strong. Barkley believes the running game has been “kind of nonexistent this year” despite the offense having nearly the same lineup as 2024."We gotta go respond," Barkley told reporters. “We didn’t do that, we got to do a better job of putting teams away. We didn’t do that and I definitely didn’t help. Obviously last year and in other games I was a big part of that and it’s been kind of nonexistent this year. I got to figure it out for the team and I’m going to get it right. I’ll figure it out.”The Eagles ran for only 63 yards. The right side of the offensive line struggled without Lane Johnson, and Dallas' five-down fronts caused problems.Eagles players defend Saquon Barkley after loss against DallasSaquon Barkley’s struggles in the Eagles’ 24-21 loss to the Cowboys drew criticism. Disappointed with his performance, he admitted that he wasn't at his best."I'm in a little funk right now," Barkley told reporters after the game. However, his teammates rejected that idea, with All-Pro tackle Jordan Mailata defending Barkley."He’s not in a funk, man," Mailata said. "That’s just the guy Saquon is. Good dude. But he’s just being hard on himself. It’s on all of us up front.""It’s not on Saquon. It’s on all of us. You can just watch the film. We always say we’re one block away. As tiring and as repetitive as that is, that’s the truth. I’m tired of saying it. But it starts with us. We’ve got to do a better job of execution. And until we do that, this run game isn’t going anywhere." The running back fumbled the ball in the fourth quarter at a crucial time, but Jalen Hurts also refused to pin the blame on Barkley.“That’s not all on him," Hurts said. "Can’t put that on him. I know how he’ll work moving forward. And I think that will be infectious to the rest of us.”Philadelphia (8-3) will host Chicago (8-3) on Friday.
