Tyrann Mathieu announced his retirement back in July. However, on Monday's episode of the "Up & Adams Show", he hinted at the possibility of returning to the gridiron to play for his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

During his interview with Kay Adams, Mathieu did not deny the possibility of unretiring to help Andy Reid's team clinch a playoff spot. He further added fuel to the fire, saying that he's in contact with Chiefs GM Brett Veach about returning to play for the franchise.

"I'm not gonna say no (to play for the Chiefs)," Mathieu said. "Yes, probably (going to go visit them). I've stayed in contact with, you know, obviously Brett (Veach) and, but mostly Coach Reid. His grandson actually plays on the football team with my son. It's family, you know.

"It's the fact that you want to help your friends. You want your friends to have a fighting chance. I know fans hit me up all the time on Twitter, X, and they want me to come back. Mostly, they want me to come back to just provide that energy, that attitude. I think we're just missing a little bit of that."

The retired safety was at Arrowhead Stadium for Monday's episode of the "Up & Adam Show". Mathieu did not hold back when asked to express his feelings about returning to the building after years.

"It feels good," Mathieu said. "You know, this is home for me man. I think being able to win the Super Bowl here, and knowing like when we did for the fans when we did it, cause they had to wait 50 years, like that, I always think about that moment.

"Because that's what I really think about looking back at my career here too. I played in a lot of big games, I had a lot of success. But, this community embraced me from day one and I always appreciated that."

Andy Reid and his team are placed third in the AFC East with a 6-6 record, raising questions about their chances of competing in this season's playoffs. Last week, they suffered a 31-28 loss on the road to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Chiefs are next scheduled to face the Texans on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
