Former sports analyst and columnist Jason Whitlock explained why he will root against Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders when he makes his first NFL start against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
The rookie quarterback got his first taste of NFL action when he replaced Dillon Gabriel in the second half of the loss to the Baltimore Ravens, completing four of 16 passes for 47 yards and an interception. With Gabriel still in concussion protocol, Sanders will start against a struggling Vegas unit in Week 12.
In a nine-minute video posted on his YouTube channel, Whitlock explained why he wanted the Colorado alum to flop.
“I want him to flop because I think his success would send a horrible message to young kids that arrogance, radical materialism, bravado, entitlement, playing the victim card is all a good thing," Whitlock said (Timestamp: 3.12).

"I don’t want young people to think that, ‘Hey, I got to dress up like a rapper. I have to make rap songs. I have to buy big gold chains. I have to talk in a way that makes me sound ghetto, even though I’ve never once seen the ghetto.’”
Shedeur Sanders, like his dad, Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, has been a controversial figure since his college days with the Colorado Buffaloes. Despite leaving college on a high note, with projections of being a first-round draft pick, Sanders had a humbling experience.
He had to wait till the fifth round to be selected by the Cleveland Browns, with Gabriel going before him. He has subsequently had to fight for an opportunity to play, with Joe Flacco named the starter at the start of the season before Gabriel took over.
Sanders is excited for his start.
"I know you can't miss it – you cannot miss this moment," he told reporters. "It'll be definitely exciting. We are going out there with a purpose, going out there mentally ready, no distractions, no anything, and I'll be excited."
Both teams are 2-8 heading into Sunday's contest. The Raiders have lost four straight, while the Browns have lost six of their last seven.
