Kansas City Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub called out Donald Trump over his stance on the NFL’s new kickoff format. Trump has repeatedly said he doesn't like the new rule, calling it “demeaning” to football and saying it destroys the sport’s “pageantry.”However, Toub thinks the president does not know what he’s talking about.“He doesn’t even know what he’s looking at,” Toub said Thursday. “He has no idea what’s going on with the kickoff rule… I hope he hears it.”The NFL’s new kickoff format was introduced in 2024 and tweaked again for 2025. It is designed to increase returns while reducing high-speed collisions. Trump, speaking on The Pat McAfee Show last Tuesday, called for Commissioner Roger Goodell to restore the old rules. However, coaches like Toub argue the league’s adjustments, including moving touchbacks to the 35-yard line, have made kickoffs more exciting and strategic. Also read: $30,000,000 Jaguars star rips Amon-Ra St. Brown for doing Donald Trump dance during Lions vs. CommandersAlso read: Top 10 memes mocking Pat McAfee for hosting Donald Trump’s Veterans Day call-in on ESPNDonald Trump wasn't happy about Lions vs. Commanders gameDonald Trump made history on Nov. 9, when he became the first sitting president since 1978 to attend an NFL regular-season game.
