"I didn't even try to go after it": Kareem Hunt makes his feelings known after fumble against Colts

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt hadn't lost a fumble since his first-ever carry in the NFL. That changed in the Indianapolis Colts game in Week 12.

After the game, Hunt spoke about his rare lost fumble. He said,

"It was kind of like I was falling forward and about to fall on my head. I thought I had hit the ground, and it was just kind of weird. It just rolled and slipped out."

Hunt continued,

"I didn't even try to go after it because I thought I was down already. It's one of those things."

Hunt has fumbled the ball just five times in his NFL career, a remarkably low number for a featured power back. He's lost just two of those fumbles with an eight-year gap between the losses.

Hunt had a statement game against the Colts. He led the Chiefs in carries (30) and rushing yards (104). His ability to extend plays was crucial in the Chiefs' win over the red-hot Colts.

Kareem Hunt's NFL career looked down and out after the 2023 season. He had been let go by the Cleveland Browns after starting just two games and featuring mostly as a red zone threat.

According to ESPN, Hunt spent the offseason working out with his former track coach, Matt Luck, four times a week at Willoughby South High School just outside of Cleveland. Hunt looked to stay in shape just in case an NFL team called for his services.

That call came on September 16, 2024, after the Kansas City Chiefs invited Hunt for a visit following Isiah Pacheco's injury. Hunt was promptly signed to the Chiefs' practice squad and was elevated to the main roster after a week.

Hunt played in 13 games (eight starts) for the Chiefs in the 2024 season. He posted a stat line of 200 carries (his most since his rookie season), 728 rushing yards, and seven touchdowns. He signed a one-year deal that'll keep him in Kansas City for the 2025 campaign.

Kareem Hunt has become a key part of Andy Reid's offense since his return to Kansas City. His availability is a crucial asset due to Isiah Pacheco's injury issues, and his talents were on full display against the Colts. Next up for Hunt is a showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
