North Carolina coach Bill Belichick has been linked with a return to the NFL while in his first year at the collegiate level. The New York Giants fired Brian Daboll from his coaching role on Monday after a dismal start to the 2025 season.
While several names have been thrown in the hat for the Giants' coaching job, NFL insider Gary Myers has suggested Belichick could be the man to fill the vacancy at New York.
“He (Belichick) would walk from Chapel Hill to East Rutherford for this job,” Myers said to "Outkick" reporter Armando Salguero. “I really believe that.”
Myers also explained why Belichick's ambitions could see him return to the pro league with a record in sight.

“I think (Belichick) desperately wants the 15 victories to pass (Don) Shula and he desperately wants to win a Super Bowl without Brady.” Myers said.
Belichick had a string with the Giants from 1979 to 1991. He started as a special teams coach and defensive assistant before taking over as defensive coordinator, helping them win two Super Bowls.
Belichick also worked as the New England Patriots' head coach for 24 years, winning six Super Bowls. The Patriots fired him in January 2024 after two straight losing seasons.
Bill Belichick dismisses rumors of return to NFL amid first year at UNC

On Tuesday, Bill Belichick dismissed rumors of potentially leaving UNC to take up the vacant coaching job with the Giants.
“Getting ready for Wake Forest,” Belichick said when asked about his name coming up by WRAL. “That's all I got this week.”
Belichick is in his first year as a college head coach at UNC. The Har Heels are currently 13th in the ACC with a 4-5 (2-3) record.
North Carolina will travel to face Wake Forest on Saturday before finishing the regular season with games against Duke and at NC State. With two more wins, UNC will be eligible for a bowl game.
