Mike McCarthy might be heading to Tennessee to coach Cam Ward. The veteran coach hasn't worked since leaving Dallas in January; however, he continues to be linked to openings around the league.

Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr reported on Thursday that McCarthy is being considered by some as an early favorite to land the Titans gig.

Tennessee cut ties with Brian Callahan midway this season. Mike McCoy stepped in as a temporary fix, but things haven't gotten any better. The franchise needs someone who can handle Ward's growth. The rookie quarterback was drafted at No. 1 in April and represents the biggest piece of its rebuild.

McCarthy's résumé is hard to ignore. He was a head coach for 18 years with a 174-112 record and led the Packers to a Super Bowl win in 2010. McCarthy is 11-11 in the playoffs.

Developing Cam Ward likely matters more than anything else for Tennessee. Mike McCarthy has coached some big names at quarterback, including Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Joe Montana, Rich Gannon and Dak Prescott.

McCarthy generated interest during last year's hiring cycle before sitting out 2025. He was a finalist for one job last season but backed out.

The coaching market is loaded with options. However, the Titans are not expected to rush into anything until after the season ends.
