Bill Simmons criticized Patrick Mahomes after the Kansas City Chiefs lost 22-19 to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. He shared a YouTube short on his channel, discussing how Mahomes' poor decision-making in the fourth quarter cost the team an important game.

“Patrick Mahomes blew a fourth-quarter lead in a must-win road game and got outplayed by Bo freaking Nix," Simmons said. "It was such a huge game for KC, so you want to go 5-5. They’re 5-5. It’s nuts. I just don’t think he’s playing that well. He had in the first half, he had open guys that he just missed, but then the red zone stuff has been weird too.

"Like that interception he threw today was like that was like a scrub quarterback interception. You can’t blame the weapons thing, because he has weapons. These guys are like, I think good receivers. He certainly has better weapons than Buffalo does.”

Meanwhile, the Broncos defense held Kansas City to just one touchdown in four red-zone trips. Bo Nix led the winning drive, and he completed 24 of 37 passes for 295 yards.

Simmons emphasized the gravity of the Chiefs' loss. They held a lead early in the game but couldn’t close it out.

Patrick Mahomes takes blame for Chiefs’ 22-19 loss to Broncos

Patrick Mahomes acknowledged his role in his team’s disappointing start to the season after the Kansas City Chiefs lost 22-19 to the Denver Broncos.

“I think we’re really talented and we’ve got a lot of great players, but it’s about being more consistent," Mahomes said during Sunday's postgame presser.

"I think it starts with me. There’s times where I’m firing and we’re moving the ball down the field at ease. But there’s times where we go in spurts where I miss a throw or a (pass) protection call. We haven’t been consistent enough to win games. It starts with me.”

The quarterback also discussed a key red-zone interception.

“You can’t do it," Mahomes said. "I just didn’t throw it high enough. (Broncos cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian) jumped up and made a good play. I’ve made that throw before, but with the type of game we’re in, don’t put the ball in harm’s way. Take the three points and move on to the next possession.”

The loss raised question marks abou the Chiefs' (5-5) playoff prospects as they prepare to face the Indianapolis Colts (8-2) next.
