The Cleveland Browns were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday after a 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans. However, they could have used an important person to have a chance.

With just over a minute left, Shedeur Sanders found fellow rookie Harold Fannin Jr. for a touchdown to cut the deficit to two. But then he was pulled from the field for the subsequent two-point attempt.

Instead, Quinshon Judkins took the snap straight out of shotgun in a wildcat formation. However, he failed to see Gage Larvadain coming in for a pitch and instead had to turn and throw an incompletion to double coverage:

Criticism fell on coach Kevin Stefanski for the ill-fated decision:

Sanders had a fairly dominant performance in defeat, completing 23 of 42 attempts for 362 yards and three touchdowns against an interception. He also rushed thrice for 29 yards and another score.

The Titans, meanwhile, were buoyed by Tony Pollard, who had his best game of the season with 25 carries for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Cam Ward, meanwhile, was average, completing just 14 of 28 attempts for 117 yards and two touchdowns against an interception.

Browns HC Kevin Stefanski responds to not using Shedeur Sanders in two-point play vs. Titans

After the game, Kevin Stefanski rued his decision to the press, saying (via ESPN):

“Not going to get into all the specifics. But obviously, it did not go as we thought it would. ... That’s on me. I’m responsible for all of it.”

Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders said that the play had worked well during practice. Hence, he did not object to leaving the field before it:

"I know we practiced something and we executed it in practice and just didn't seem to this day. So I would never go against what the call was or anything."

Of course, it did not pan out as he and the team had hoped (via Cleveland Browns' official website):

"Sometimes you got to run the ball, sometimes you got to kick a field goal. That's the most important thing, the ball, in any situation. Of course, you would want to [have the ball in your hands]."

The Browns' next game will be at the Chicago Bears next Sunday. Kickoff is at 1 pm ET on Fox.
