The Atlanta Falcons have lost four consecutive games, the latest of which was a 31-25 overtime defeat by the Indianapolis Colts. Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was visibly shaken after Sunday's loss.

The team's offense has been in turmoil over the last few weeks, and Penix's comments on Tuesday stirred the pot. The second-year quarterback fuelled speculation of tension in the locker room after saying he doesn't talk to anybody for on-field advice and doesn't have a mentor on the sidelines.

"No, I like my fiancée, she's always there for me. Whenever I get home, it doesn't matter how I played, she's always gonna be there for me. She's gonna have a smile on her face and give me a hug and make me feel good, no matter what. But as far as you know, physically, the on-field stuff, it's not anybody that I'll talk to.

"As far as another quarterback or anything like that, you know, I do have people reach out to me. I do have quarterback coaches back at home that reach out to me as well, you know, tell me, 'Hey, like you need to clean this up, clean that up and everything would be good.' So those guys helped me as far as that goes."

Penix hasn't been able to live up to expectations as a starter. He completed 12 of his 28 passes for 177 yards, with a touchdown, three sacks and a lost fumble on Sunday.

ESPN analyst Rich Eisen was surprised by Penix' comments, especially the lack of mention for the coaching staff.

"And then Penix is asked, who are you relying on, and he doesn’t mention the head coach, and he doesn’t mention the offensive coordinator, and he doesn’t mention the quarterbacks coach, he doesn’t mention anybody there,” Eisen said.

Falcons coach Raheem Morris defends Michael Penix Jr. amid offensive slump

The Falcons are 4-7 in 11 games with Michael Penix Jr. as their starter. While the second-year quarterback is facing criticism for his performances, Falcons coach Raheem Morris said that Penix is too hard on himself.

"He is very high character, very accountable, almost to the point of fault at times. He's controlling a lot and doing a lot of things for a young football player and watching his development go and what he's able to handle and able to do and able to get us into, able to get us through with the good plays, the bad plays."

With the Falcons' season slipping, Penix will hope to end the team's losing streak against the Panthers on Sunday.
