Fake report of Abdul Carter watching p**n goes viral as Giants DE gets benched for opening possession vs. Patriots

The New York Giants decided to bench rookie linebacker Abdul Carter for the opening drive during Monday's showdown against the New England Patriots. According to reports, it was because of a "coach's decision", and he did not suffer from any type of injury.

As per reports, Carter was benched because he was late to a team meeting, resulting in this step being taken as a disciplinary measure.

"Sources: #Giants Abdul Carter was benched again for missing all/part of a team responsibility, a league source tells me. That's twice in three games under interim coach Mike Kafka. Part of a recurring theme this season," NFL reporter Ryan Dunleavy tweeted.

A few hours before the game, a parody account named "Wesley Steinberg" tweeted that the reason behind Carter's benching was that he was involved in some NSFW activities during a team meeting.

"#Giants DE Abdul Carter will miss the first drive tonight for disciplinary reasons after getting caught watching p**n in a team meeting when his headphones disconnected," Wesley Steinberg tweeted.

The post went viral on X, garnering 16.3 million views. However, these claims are fake and lack authenticity, as the Giants have not yet released an official statement on the reason behind Carter's benching.

The rookie linebacker missed the entire first quarter while his team trailed 17-0. Quarterback Drake Maye and cornerback Marcus Jones both scored touchdowns, while Andres Borregales scored a 22-yard field goal to give the Patriots the lead.

Abdul Carter returned to the field for the Giants' first defensive series in the second quarter.

This is the second time that Carter has been benched by Mike Kafka. The first incident took place during their 27-20 loss to the Packers, when the rookie linebacker missed a walkthrough practice because of allegedly "mixing up his schedule."

How has Abdul Carter performed so far this season?

Abdul Carter had an impressive collegiate career with the Penn State Nittany Lions. In three seasons, he tallied 172 total tackles, 23 sacks, and 39.5 tackles for loss. He was honored as the 2024 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

The Giants then drafted Carter with the third overall pick in this year's NFL Draft. However, despite high expectations, his performance on the field has been underwhelming.

Before Monday's game against the Patriots, the 2024 Unanimous All-American recorded 27 total tackles with just 0.5 sacks, 12 quarterback hits, and one tackle for loss.

The Giants are having a disappointing season altogether. Coach Brian Daboll was fired after a 2-8 start to the year. Under interim coach Mike Kafka, they are currently placed last in the NFC East with a 2-10 record and a six-game losing streak.
