The Packers suffered a surprising 16-13 loss at home to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. After the game, Benkert doubled down on a tweet he had shared on Oct. 20, when he suggested that LaFleur give up play-calling duties.

"I still stand by this," Benkert tweeted.

The Packers took the lead on Sunday after Brandon McManus scored a 49-yard field goal in the second quarter. However, Rico Dowdle's rushing touchdown and Ryan Fitzgerald's extra point conversion gave the Panthers a 7-3 lead. McManus scored a 27-yard field goal to minimize the deficit before halftime.

Dowdle scored another rushing touchdown for the Panthers in the third quarter. However, Josh Jacobs' fourth-quarter TD leveled the score. Fitzgerald then scored a 49-yard field goal to seal the win for the Panthers.

Following the loss, Matt LaFleur's team is now 5-2-1. The Packers coach made some questionable decisions on Sunday, including calling an RB screen on a third-and-three play inside the red zone.

LaFleur took over as the head coach of the Packers in January 2019. Since then, he has led the team to five playoff appearances, but has yet to make it to the Super Bowl.

Last season, they finished with an 11-6 record, before losing to the Eagles in the wildcard round.

Matt LaFleur takes responsibility for the disappointing loss to the Panthers

In the post-game press conference, Matt LaFleur praised the Panthers for their performance and highlighted the mistakes his team made on the field.

"You know, give credit to Carolina," LaFleur said. "They had a plan in order to beat us in regards to trying to run the football consistently throughout the course of the game and just make us dink and dunk the ball down the field.

"And then, played good defense in the red zone. We had the two turnovers, missed a field goal. So, we did enough things just, you know, we deservedly got our a** beat."

The Packers will next take on the Super Bowl LIX champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, next Monday at 8:15 p.m. ET.
