Long made a detailed comparison of the qualities of the Colts’ tight end and the Patriots legend on his show, Green Light. Among other qualities, he pointed out how Warren’s physical frame is so similar to Gronkowski’s frame. He said:

“He is the closest thing I’ve seen to Gronk since Gronk, unless I’m forgetting somebody. The guy is, from a frame standpoint, so tough to maneuver around at the catch point. Tyler Warren, they have found somebody special in that guy there.”

The former Super Bowl champion further clarified:

“When I talk about Warren being Gronkey, I mean it’s just the sheer size of the guy. And he has the athleticism. He’s got a little basketball player in him.”

Tyler Warren led the Colts in receptions on Sunday, with 99 yards of reception in eight catches as the Colts won over the Falcons. In all, the rookie tight end has made 50 receptions this season for 617 yards and three touchdowns.

How Tyler Warren is exceeding expectations in Indianapolis

The Colts selected Warren with the 14th overall pick of this year’s NFL Draft, with a lot of expectations on the Penn State alum’s shoulders. The 23-year-old apparently had the quality to walk into the Colts’ tight end room and immediately become a starter.

Expected to elevate Indianapolis’ struggling tight end room, Warren has since exceeded every expectation for his campaign. The Virginia-born tight end is already getting shouts for the Offensive Rookie of the Year honor, with constant mention among the league’s best tight ends.

The Colts drafted Tyler Warren after he spent five years in college, all with the Nittany Lions. With only two games played, he redshirted his true freshman season before going on to become a pillar in the program’s offense for four seasons.

He ended his time in college with 153 career receptions for 1,839 yards and 19 touchdowns. Meanwhile, he rushed for 224 yards and six touchdowns in 32 attempts.

The Colts are first in the AFC South going into their bye week. With the needed rest and opportunity to properly refuel, the team will be back on Nov. 23 to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
