Emmanuel Acho reveals “dumbest thing” Jerry Jones can do with George Pickens as trade deadline nears

Emmanuel Acho gave a warning to Jerry Jones over how the Dallas Cowboys are managing wide receiver George Pickens. Acho, a former NFL linebacker turned media analyst, shared his perspective as scrutiny intensifies around the Cowboys’ mid-season plans. Pickens arrived in Dallas via trade from Pittsburgh this offseason.

Speaking on Monday’s edition of "Speakeasy," Acho emphasized the importance of securing the young receiver long-term. His remarks came just days before the Nov. 4 trade deadline.

Dallas sits at 3-4-1 following Sunday’s 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos. Pickens recorded seven receptions for 78 yards in the defeat but couldn’t prevent another defensive collapse. The Cowboys have surrendered 31.6 points per game this season.

George Pickens is nearing the end of his rookie deal and is projected to command roughly $30 million per year on the open market, according to Spotrac. The franchise tag is expected to cost around $28 million in 2026. These numbers conflict with Dallas’ current salary commitments.

Quarterback Dak Prescott carries a $74 million cap hit in 2026, while CeeDee Lamb adds $38.6 million. Running back Javonte Williams, currently earning $3 million, will also seek a raise. Finding space for Pickens under those constraints would be difficult.

Tim Cowlishaw of "The Dallas Morning News" said Monday that Dallas should consider trading Pickens now to maximize his value and avoid a looming cap crunch.

Pickens ranks tied for ninth in NFL targets, third in receiving yards, and first in yards after the catch through eight games. His 36 receptions for 607 yards and six touchdowns have helped Dallas average 30.8 points per game, second-best in the league.

Despite that offensive success, the team continues to struggle defensively. Coach Brian Schottenheimer promised adjustments after the Denver loss, though injuries have complicated matters. Safeties Donovan Wilson and Juanyeh Thomas could return in Week 9, but cornerback Alijah Clark is expected to miss time with a rib injury.
