Eli Manning became a part of the coaching rumors after a parody account joked that Ole Miss would hire him head coach if Lane Kiffin actually left for LSU. The two-time Super Bowl champion jokingly said that "Coach Manning" has a nice ring to it.

On Friday, Manning added to the fun by reposting a clip from Tavis and Jason Kelce's "New Heights" podcast, in which Travis suggested Ole Miss should bring back the four-time Pro Bowler to lead the Rebels.

"Me realizing I can’t coach from my couch," Manning wrote.

Kiffin's messy departure from Ole Miss to LSU led to the program promoting defensive coordinator Pete Golding to the permanent head coaching role. Eli Manning has taken back his words about returning to his alma mater as a head coach.

Eli Manning managed to carry his father, Archie Manning's, legacy during his four-year journey at Ole Miss from 1999 to 2003. The quarterback redshirted his freshman year. He finished with 10,119 career passing yards, 81 touchdown passes and set or tied 47 Ole Miss records during his tenure.

In October 2021, Ole Miss honored him by retiring his No. 10 jersey. He went on to spend his entire 16-season NFL career with the New York Giants, winning two Super Bowls.

Eli Manning makes bold accusation about Lane Kiffin

Lane Kiffin was officially announced as LSU’s new head coach on Monday, following his departure from Ole Miss. In his final appearance, he led the Rebels to a 38–19 win over Mississippi State in Friday’s Egg Bowl.

On Monday, former Ole Miss star and New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning spoke on 'SiriusXM’s Airing It Out' and claimed that Kiffin may have skipped team meetings ahead of the Egg Bowl.

“I’m not even sure Lane attended a single meeting last week before the Mississippi State game," Manning said. "It felt like his mind was already made up and he knew he was headed to LSU. It really shows how strong those players were to still go out and perform.”

Kiffin claimed that a fan tried to run him off the road on his way to the airport. Manning had a cheeky one-word response for the latest LSU HC.

"Oops," Manning wrote.

It would have been an iconic move if Ole Miss actually approached and handed the head coach role to Manning. The legendary QB is just 44 years old and there might be more opportunities coming his way in the future.
