Darius Slay isn't going to Buffalo. The cornerback is mulling retirement after the Bills picked him off waivers on Wednesday. Eagles insider Anthony DiBona believes Slay and his agent Drew Rosenhaus are trying to force their way to Philadelphia.
"Darius Slay and Drew Rosenhaus are essentially forcing his way to the Eagles by threatening retirement as he 'contemplates his future,'" DiBona tweeted on Thursday. "Yet the Bills don't technically have to comply with anything that Slay or Rosenhaus wants. But things are tricky with such a powerful agent."
Pittsburgh released Slay on Tuesday. Buffalo claimed him the next day. The Bills (8-4) are seventh in the AFC standings. They're 2.5 games behind New England in the division.

What happens to Darius Slay depends on Buffalo's decision

Drew Rosenhaus spoke to ESPN about Darius Slay's plans.
"Slay is honored that a first-class organization like the Bills claimed him, but he is going to take some time away from football right now and decide in the next few days if he wants to keep playing," Rosenhaus said.
That leaves the Bills with a choice to make. Buffalo can place Slay on the reserve/retired list. His contract goes through this season, so they'd keep his rights. Philadelphia did this with Jaire Alexander in November after trading for him. Alexander wanted to step away and the Eagles put him on the reserve list.
The Bills could also release Slay. But they face Philadelphia on Dec. 28 in a game that might determine who makes the playoffs. Letting Slay sign for an upcoming opponent wouldn't be in their best interest.
Slay played for Philadelphia from 2020 to 2024 and went to three Pro Bowls.
