Less than two years after he was drafted, Jermaine Burton’s time with the Cincinnati Bengals is over. The Bengals cut ties with Burton on Monday after suspending him ahead of their Sunday’s 39-34 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The wide receiver didn’t make the trip with the team.
Burton was selected by the Bengals in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft following a noteworthy college career at Alabama and Georgia. He appeared in 14 games in his rookie season, recording four receptions for 107 yards, but he has failed to make the field in 2025.
Details surrounding Jermaine Burton’s suspension and eventual release remain unclear after there were no words on it from the Bengals. The wide receiver has, however, been in the middle of a host of controversy on and off the field since the beginning professional career.
Burton was brought in by the Bengals to complement top names Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in the team's wide receiver room. However, he never established himself as a solid option on the field for Joe Burrow. Going forward, the wide receiver will look to continue his career elsewhere.

There's been a lot of reaction to the release of Jermiane Burton by the Bengals among NFL fans. The wide receiver failed to live up to the lofty expectations in Cincinnati, generating a lot of talk. Here's a look at some of the reactions online:
Jermaine Burton failed to meet the Bengals’ demand
The Cincinnati Bengals were unsatisfied with Jermaine Burton’s unimpressive rookie season. This led to a public demand for the wide receiver to improve his game by Bengals director of personnel Duke Tobin at the conclusion of the season. He has failed to meet that demand.
“He's done nothing, and he's going to have to start doing something quickly,” Tobin said. “We knew we were taking a risk. We felt comfortable that we could help him through some of the challenges he's had in the past, and we're going to continue to try to help him.
"But this is professional football, and you have to take accountability, and you have to be accountable to your teammates, your coaches, and the team that you're playing for, and he has to figure that out. He's got to figure that out fast.”
Jermaine Burton has had a series of issues that have made him an unreliable player. He was benched for missing practice against the Las Vegas Raiders during his rookie season. He was also accused of assaulting a woman in January, but no charges were pressed against him.
