Former sports columnist Jason Whitlock described Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens' performance against the Detroit Lions on Thursday as "bipolar."

“This is not a mental diagnosis, it's an adjective. He looks bipolar on the football field,” Whitlock tweeted on Saturday. "You just never know what you're gonna get."

He deleted the tweet after receiving criticism.

"I deleted my tweet speculating that George Pickens might be bipolar," Whitlock tweeted. "Mistake on my part."

"Yeah, but you said Pickens might be bipolar in this tweet…" another fan wrote.
"'mistake on my part.' Is that supposed to be an apology?" a fan commented.
"I thought you were 'fearless'," one fan said.
"This isn’t an apology, Jason," a fan tweeted.
"Lol, you're such a f*cking moron," another fan said.

Pickens struggled in the 44-30 loss, catching just five passes for 37 yards. With his fellow wideout CeeDee Lamb sidelined after suffering a concussion, Pickens became the focal point of the Lions defense.

A critical mishap occurred on the first play of the second half, as his slant route was deflected and intercepted. Pickens was also flagged for offensive pass interference on a third-down conversion, costing Dallas a first down and stalling a drive.

George Pickens’ breakout year sparks NFC interest as Cowboys face contract decision

George Pickens is having his best season in Dallas. He has recorded 1,179 yards and eight touchdowns, ranking among the league’s top receivers. With his contract expiring in 2026 and a projected price tag of $30 million per year, teams like the 49ers are expected to show interest.

San Francisco tried to acquire Pickens during Brandon Aiyuk trade talks in 2024. However, it couldn’t reach a deal with Pittsburgh. With Aiyuk recovering from a major knee injury and his future uncertain, the 49ers may circle back if Pickens hits the market.

CBS listed him as a “must-sign” option for them, while AFC teams such as the Chargers, Jets, Patriots and the Raiders remain possible contenders.

The Cowboys must decide whether to offer a long-term deal or use the franchise tag, valued at around $28 million.
