Dez Bryant urges George Pickens to take pay cut for greater legacy with Cowboys after sensational MNF outing vs. Raiders

George Pickens put up another impressive performance on Monday during the Dallas Cowboys' 33-16 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite being benched for the first drive alongside CeeDee Lamb as a "disciplinary measure," the wide receiver had 144 yards on nine receptions and scored a touchdown in the second quarter of the game.

Following the victory, ex-Cowboys star Dez Bryant had a message for Pickens. In a tweet he shared on X, he urged the wide receiver to stay with the team and build a legacy as a franchise legend. Bryant believes that Pickens will be "worth more" if he becomes a Cowboys star instead of being the highest-paid WR in the league.

"George Pickens... I want you to understand that whenever it's tme to negotiate your new contract.. your legacy will be worth more than being the highest paid wide receiver..if you stayed with the Cowboys.

"There's a lot more to the thought process, but think about it.... If I were Jerry.. I would respectfully go in a different direction than DC Eberflus... not because he's a bad coach. I would offer Al Harris the DC job and let him find his defensive support.

"You have to be the best at what's current. I've watched great teams and been a part of great teams the Cowboys have had over the years. Also, you have to keep the roster young and hungry... I played with guys who were past their due date and didnt't love the game. respectfully."

The Cowboys acquired George Pickens via a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers in May. He is currently in the last year of his four-year $6.75 million rookie deal and is expected to get a new contract from the Cowboys.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had shared his honest thoughts on a potential contract extension for George Pickens

Since arriving in Dallas, Pickens has been an important part of the team's offense. Last month, owner Jerry Jones was asked about providing the wide receiver with a contract extension.

He responded by talking about George Pickens' contribution to the team. Jones also said that they will consider the matter as the season progresses.

"He is doing more than we expect or that we could've expected," Jones said. "And what's really special is, he's a real plus to have around the team. He's a real plus around his teammates, he's a great plus around the coaches, and those coaches really think highly of him. ... So we'll weight that.

"If things really went like we want them to go, that, certainly, we need to think about having some (cap) room available if we're gonna pay a second receiver at that level."

The Cowboys (4-5-1) are next scheduled to face the Eagles (8-2) at home on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
