Both the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears were met with a rude welcome to the 2025 NFL season as both suffered brutal defeats to NFC North opponents. Both teams aim to rebound with a victory over another NFL North opponent on Sunday. However, the loser will drop to 0-2 with its playoff hopes statistically on life support with a 0-2 division record.

Lions vs. Bears Game Summary

The Bears and Lions both needed a fast start after Week 1, but only one team could score first. That team was the Detroit Lions as running back Jahmyr Gibbs rushed into the end zone for a 6-yard touchdown to cap a 60-yard drive.

The Chicago Bears responded, delivering a touchdown of their own with a Caleb Williams pass to Rome Odunze for 28 yards, making the score 7-7.

The two teams exchanged punts before the Lions took the lead with a touchdown on a 50-yard drive. Disaster then struck with a Bears fumble, but the Lions didn't capitalize.

The Bears fumbled on their next possession, with the back-to-back failed drives showing plenty of problems for the Chicago offense after a quality start. The Lions then missed a field goal. The Bears failed to respond as Caleb Williams threw an interception on a minus-8 yard drive. The Lions then methodically drove down the field 67 yards for a touchdown.

The Detroit Lions owned the third quarter, delivering 10 unanswered points, with a 60-yard, five-play drive for a field and a 44-yard TD catch by Jameson Williams for a 38-14 lead. By this point, the game was effectively on ice.
