Darius Slay's short-lived tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers ended on Tuesday, when the team and the six-time Pro Bowler mutually agreed to part ways. Slay, a 13-year veteran, joined the Steelers after spending the last five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he won Super Bowl LIX.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the cornerback is hoping to continue his career with a different franchise.

"Steelers and CB Darius Slay have mutually agreed to part ways, Slay’s agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey told ESPN. Slay is interested in continuing to play, and will consider signing with other teams. But his time in Pittsburgh has come to an end."

Slay's wife, Jennifer, reacted to the news with an emoji on X.

Darius Slay joined the Steelers on a one-year, $10 million contract in the offseason. He was a healthy scratch in the Steelers' 26-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Before that, Slay was benched in favor of James Pierre during the 31-28 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 12.

NFL fans call for Darius Slay to return to former team

Jennifer Slay's post drew a lot of attention from fans. Many called for Slay to return to the Philadelphia Eagles.

"Tell him to call Howie and come back home! Clearly the lack of him and your banana pudding is why we've struggled this year," one fan said.
"Come back to Philly! Wish they never would of let him go in the first place," another fan said.
"Get your a***s back home now! Before the street lights come on I expect you guys home!" another fan wrote.

Detroit Lions fans also chimed in.

"One reunion that makes total sense with some unfinished business!" one fan said.
"It’s time to return to where it all began," another fan said.
"Welcome back to Detroit," another fan added.

Darius Slay entered the league as the No. 36 pick in the 2013 NFL draft out of Mississippi State. He spent seven seasons with the Lions, recording 347 tackles, one sack, two fumble recoveries and 19 interceptions in 103 games.

He added 272 tackles, three fumble recoveries and nine interceptions in 74 games with the Eagles. More recently, he posted 36 tackles and one fumble recovery with the Steelers.
