Cowboys owner Jerry Jones not convinced Trevon Diggs can play at the level Dallas demands

Trevon Diggs has been sidelined from action since October and has missed the last four games for the Dallas Cowboys. The cornerback suffered an accident in his home ahead of the Week 7 game against the Washington Commanders, placing him on concussion protocol.

During his Friday morning appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was directly asked whether Diggs is still capable of performing at the elite level the team expects from him. Jones, who doubles as the team’s general manager, wasn’t confident about it.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. No one knows,” Jones said. “We’ll just see how it goes. He’s obviously been limited, so we’ll see how that goes.”

The Cowboys have been largely underwhelming on the defensive side of the ball, allowing 381.3 yards and 29.3 points per game, the third-worst in the league. In light of this, Jerry Jones was questioned on whether he feels the Cowboys fans can be better when Trevon Diggs returns.

“I think if Diggs plays at the level that he’s expected to play, yes. A big yes,” Jones said. “It’s just amazing what additional healthy talent can do for your execution and game plan. And frankly, the production of the players who are playing around that returning player. So, the answer is a big yes there.”

What led to Trevon Diggs’ injury remains unknown

Trevon Diggs started the Dallas Cowboys’ first six games of the season despite being listed as physically unable to perform during the preseason. The details of his injury haven't been made available; even Jerry Jones declined to provide the details after the Commanders’ game.

“I don’t know the combination of the injury and how it impacted, regarding concussion issue, I’m not sure that I know the details of how that happened,” Jones said, via Jeff Kolb of FOX 4 News. “He said what happened, and I’m not saying that didn’t happen.

“But a lot of times, you’re not the best viewer of what happened to you. … Yeah, no, I won’t get into that, but the bottom line is that I do expect him back.”

Injuries in the last few seasons have plagued Trevon Diggs. Just two weeks into the 2023 season, he tore his ACL in practice and missed the rest of the year. In 2024, he sat out two games with a groin issue after appearing in 11 games before undergoing knee surgery that ended his season.
