The Cowboys' defensive struggles over the last two months are no secret to anyone. However, Jones made a backhanded remark about his defense in a conversation with Benoit Morenne of The Wall Street Journal.

“There’s $100 billion present value with gas out there,” Jones said. “That’s why I’m talking to you on the telephone rather than trying to fix our defense with the Dallas Cowboys.”

Jones' comment has faced backlash from Cowboys fans on social media. While Dallas coach Brian Schottenheimer acknowledged the frustration of fans, he explained that Jones remains committed to the team despite his comments.

"Jerry, Stephen and I talk almost every day by phone as well. At the end of the day, I can promise you one thing, no one wants to win more than Jerry Jones. And it’s our job to go out there and do that. That’s what we’re focused on.”

"Being honest with you, I don't know the full, full context of it. I do know a piece of it. But being a fan, and you just read that, or hear that, yeah, of course. Especially as many fans... live and breathe by this team, and they feel like their jobs are putting all their effort into this. So yeah, that could definitely be frustrating."

While Prescott acknowledged the controversy could be frustrating for the players, the Pro Bowl quarterback said it was beyond his control.

"I can see how it could be frustrating, once again, for us as players. We control what we can control. That doesn't pertain to us right now," Prescott said. "Our job is getting ready for Monday night."

The three-time Pro Bowler is gearing up for Monday Night Football action against the Arizona Cardinals.
