Nick Cross brushed aside contract chatter on Wednesday. He made it clear that he’s not letting the business side interfere with a season in which he’s become one of Indianapolis’ most dependable defenders. The Colts safety is set to hit free agency after this campaign.
Cross was asked by Kay Adams about where things stand with him and Indianapolis general manager Chris Ballard. He is in the final season of the rookie deal he signed in 2022.
"I mean, I, I leave that to my agent, you know, my agent does that stuff," Cross said, via the "Up & Adams" show. "I just go out there, play football, you know, you know, have fun with, have fun with my guys and, you know, get on Kay Adams' show."

Nick Cross points to stability, support and development in Indianapolis

Nick Cross highlighted how the Colts watched him mature from a 20-year-old draft pick.
"You know, I love being there," Cross said on Wednesday, via the "Up & Adams" show. "I love, you know what they got going on over there, you know, they've basically seen me grow up when I was, what, 20 years old. They came and drafted me, you know, the team is great. It's a great family environment, so I love being in Indianapolis."
Cross was benched two games into his rookie season. He spent time limited on special teams duties before switching positions from strong safety to free safety.
"We're counting on him to be that way and can continue to be disruptive when we blitz him," Indianapolis defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo said in September, via Colts.com. "So, we like what he's about, we like where he's heading and we're going to continue to use him in that manner."
Cross secured a starting role in 2024, his first season as a full-time starter. He recorded 145 tackles, ranking second among all NFL safeties and eighth in the league.
