Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson’s status for the upcoming game against the Chicago Bears is uncertain as of Monday, per reports. Watson was forced to leave the Packers’ loss to Denver after the Broncos' cornerback Pat Surtain II fell on him in the third quarter.

Quarterback Jordan Love had thrown an interception leading up to the fall on Watson. The star receiver subsequently left the game holding his left shoulder and wound up in the hospital as the game went on.

However, reports emerging on Monday indicate Christian Watson did not pick up a long-term injury and could potentially recover in time to play against Chicago. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the receiver had no issues with his lung, and his hospital visitation for a CT scan was precautionary. He further reported that Watson’s status for the Bears’ game will be determined in the course of the week.

Love reflected on the play after the game, promising to improve on what was one of the two interceptions he threw on Sunday. He said:

“I tried to step into it, and I got hit as I was throwing, and it just ended up being a little bit short, and Pat made a really good play to be able to track it and jump in front of Christian. So, that’s a tough one. I’ll see what happened. I tried to see the replay, but it’s an unfortunate play, and then, obviously, with Christian going down on that, it makes it even worse. I’ll see what I can do better on that play and if I can get it out there or how we can improve, but I liked the concept we had and the read we had.”

Christian Watson’s importance to the Packers’ final games

The Packers will face the Bears next Saturday at Soldier Field for the top spot in the NFC North. Games against the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings will follow to close the Packers’ regular season.

The team needs Christian Watson in full health to navigate these remaining important games and finish the season strong. The wideout has caught 28 passes for 481 yards and five touchdowns this season.

Meanwhile, Packers fans will be hoping for more positive news about defensive end Micah Parsons, who picked up a knee injury against the Broncos. Additional tests are expected to be performed on the 26-year-old on Monday to determine the seriousness of his injury.
