Trey Benson might not get to play for the remainder of the 2025 season after suffering a setback during his recovery from a knee injury. The running back has been sidelined since Week 4. The Cardinals placed him on injured reserve and opened his 21-day practice window on Nov. 19.

If the team doesn't move Benson to the active roster by Dec. 10, he will miss out the rest of the season. NFL insider Adam Schefter shared the news on X on Sunday.

"Cardinals RB Trey Benson – who has not played since Week 4 due to a meniscus injury – must be activated this week or his season is over," Schefter tweeted. "And with his practice window soon closing, there now is a real chance he will not be activated this week, per sources, and he will not be eligible to play again this season."

Fans flocked to the comment section to share their reaction to the news.

"Shutting down Benson now feels like the Cardinals are waving the white flag on any shot at the playoffs. Their backfield has been a total mess without him or Conner all year, and leaning on committee guys like Knight just proves the front office blew it on depth. Arizona deserves to miss the postseason for this kind of mismanagement," a fan said.

"Cardinals injury luck is so bad the practice window probably needs its own injury designation," one fan said.
"Dang bro, Trey Benson really got put on the world’s longest timeout fr," another fan said.

More fans joined in to have their say about the Trey Benson situation.

"His season is over. We knew it when we found out he had surgery. But JG can't be honest about anything, and keeps stringing people along," a fan said.

"Why wouldn’t you just put him on the pup list so he could have started recovery already? Why the hell wasn’t this just said at the beginning of his injury?!" another fan said.
"Jonathan Gannon needs to be launched into the sun for how this mf is handling injuries and the rest of this roster. Holy shit," one fan said.

Trey Benson suffered his knee injury during the Week 4 game against the Seattle Seahawks, just one game into his opportunity as a starter following James Conner's season-ending foot injury in Week 3. He participated in practice sessions in a limited capacity during the first week of his return window. However, he hasn't practiced since then.

Arizona Cardinals' RB room without Trey Benson

With Trey Benson sidelined, Bam Knight has taken the primary running back role for the Cardinals. Emari Demercado and Michael Carter have also got a bit bigger roles.

Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon addressed the situation ahead of the team's Week 14 game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

"I don't know if Benson will return this season," Gannon said.

In his limited time on the field, Benson has recorded 29 carries for 160 yards with no touchdowns and 13 receptions for 64 yards. The Cardinals selected him in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft and hoped for him to be a cornerstone of the franchise.
