Fifty voters will pick three candidates from the group of five. The candidates need 80% backing to get inducted, and no more than three can make it.

The final decision goes down right before the 2026 Super Bowl, when the full selection committee gathers to vote on all 20 finalists. It includes the five Blue-Ribbon picks announced on Wednesday, along with 15 modern era players who'll be revealed later.

Bill Belichick grabbed his first head coaching job with Cleveland before landing in New England in 2000. He won six championships with the franchise before things went sideways.

The relationship turned cold after Tom Brady left town. The Patriots struggled, and Belichick exited following the 2023 season. He is now coaching the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Meawhile, Robert Kraft has run the organization since 1994, guiding it to 10 Super Bowls.

Some voters might hold Spygate against them. The NFL hammered Belichick with a $500,000 fine in 2007 after New England filmed New York Jets signals. Belichick won more playoff games than anyone in history and is only behind Don Shula in total victories as a head coach.
