Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward has expressed his excitement for fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders ahead of the latter’s first NFL start. While Ward, the No. 1 overall pick from the last draft, earned a starting spot right away, Sanders has had to wait before earning it.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Ward expressed his excitement at seeing the Colorado alum finally get a nod to start for the Cleveland Browns. He said:

“I’m excited for him. To finally get a chance to do what he loves, I know he’s going to be ready for it. Cleveland’s got them a good one. So it’s going to be a good game this week for him. I’m just excited for him.”

Kevin Stefanski announced earlier this week that Sanders will get his first NFL start in the Browns’ Week 12 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He had earlier made his NFL debut during last Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, replacing fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel in the second half.

Gabriel had been forced out of the game with a concussion and is set to miss the Raiders game, as he’s remained on concussion protocol. Shedeur Sanders didn’t impress on his NFL debut, as he went 4-of-16 for 47 yards and an interception. He added 16 rushing yards on three carries.

Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders’ rookie seasons so far

Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders were two of the biggest quarterback prospects going into the 2025 NFL Draft. However, while Ward lived up to the pre-draft promise, getting selected first overall, Sanders languished late into the draft, ending as a fifth-round pick.

Meanwhile, Ward is having a rocky start to life in the NFL, as the Titans sit at the bottom of the AFC South with a 1-9 record. The 23-year-old has thrown for 1,954 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions this season.

As the regular season approaches its conclusion, Ward and the Titans will be looking to salvage some points next Sunday when they face Seattle.

On the other hand, Sanders will be aiming to make himself permanent in the starting role for the Browns on Sunday. To do that, he needs a more convincing performance than he put up on his debut against the Ravens.

The Browns are 2-8 going into their clash with the Raiders, with Sanders as their third starter under center this season.
