Could Sean McDermott be getting his old offensive coordinator back?

It is no secret that his Buffalo Bills are struggling to maintain their stranglehold on the AFC East, and Sunday proved that. While the New England Patriots got a resounding 28-23 win at the contending Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the reigning divisional champions suffered a humiliating 30-13 loss at the struggling Miami Dolphins.

Josh Allen was a key component in the defeat, losing the ball twice (an interception and a fumble) despite throwing for over 300 yards with two touchdowns. And it led to speculation that the Bills would try to bring back Brian Daboll, who was fired from the New York Giants on Monday, in an attempt to salvage the quarterback.

But in a video conference on Monday, McDermott denied such notions, choosing to defend current coordinator Joe Brady:

“It’s not under any type of consideration at this time. ... We’ve got a good offensive staff. They’ve had really good games.”

He continued:

“You’re gonna have some games you want back, some play calls you want back. Those happen. So, it’s how you respond to them, and I’m fully confident in our offensive staff and Joe as our leader that we will make the adjustments we need to make and move us forward.”

Brady also spoke, acknowledging responsibility for the struggles:

“At the end of the day, when we played like we played, I have to do better.”

Colin Cowherd says Sean McDermott is wasting Josh Allen's prime

The Josh Allen-Sean McDermott era has been a successful one for the Bills in relation to where they were before. They have won the AFC East five straight times, all in the 2020s; they have made the AFC championship game twice; and Allen is the reigning MVP.

However, none of it has translated to Super Bowl success, and with the likes of the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos on the rise, Colin Cowherd warned that their window may be closing. On Monday's episode of his FS1 show, "The Herd," he said:

"Here's my thing with Sean McDermott: Something's always leaking, and it takes him an entire offseason to figure it out. You don't have an offseason. You're wasting Josh Allen's prime."

The Bills' next game will be against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1 pm ET Sunday on CBS.
