Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott opened up on the situation around cornerback Darius Slay refusing to play for his team after being claimed off waivers. The Bills claimed Slay off waivers on Dec. 3 after he was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but a day later, the CB informed Buffalo he was contemplating retirement and that he wouldn't report for team duties. On Wednesday, McDermott was asked about Slay's status, but the Bills coach appeared to hint that the CB might not be in Orchard Park anytime soon, if ever."No. If there is (an update), I don't have it," McDermott said. "That's more of a (general manager) Brandon (Beane) question."McDermott also pushed back on a follow-up question around Slay."You talking about Darius Slay?" McDermott said, "Yea, I'm not gonna answer questions about Darius Slay, respectfully. That's a question for Brandon. I'm focused on our current team and this game this week."Some believed that McDermott's response to the situation around Slay suggested that the Bills coach might have some issues with general manager Beane.Slay appeared on the "Speakeasy" show last week and discussed why he chose not to join the Bills."It wasn’t a bad fit, it just caught me at a bad time," Slay said.Slay, a six-time Pro Bowler, won the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles last season.Sean McDermott's Bills will face the New England Patriots in Week 15 of the 2025 NFL seasonNFL: Buffalo Bills HC Sean McDermott - Source: ImagnSean McDermott's Buffalo Bills (9-4) will face the New England Patriots (11-2) in Week 15 of the 2025 NFL season on Sunday.
