Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy believes that the New England Patriots are the new emerging dominant force in the AFC.In a tweet he shared on X, Portnoy took a shot at top AFC quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. He criticized the performance of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens this season. He also highlighted how 2024 NFL MVP Josh Allen and the Bills are mediocre at best before heaping praise on the Patriots."The Ravens stink. The Chiefs stink. Bills are eh. The AFC goes through the Pats for next 20 years," Portnoy said.Back in January, the Patriots named Mike Vrabel as the new coach for the 2025 season. So far, he has done an impressive job, helping the team sit atop the AFC East with a 10-2 record heading into Week 13. Their only losses of the season came during their season opener against the Raiders and a Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.Another person who has been crucial in the team's success is quarterback Drake Maye. He was drafted with the third overall pick last year. After initially starting his rookie campaign as a backup to Jacoby Brissett, he was soon named the starter following a disappointing 1-4 start to the season.During the 2024 season, Drake Maye helped the team to a 4-13 campaign while recording 2,276 yards and 15 TDs passing. However, this year, the fortunes have turned in favor of his team.Mike Vrabel and his team are currently on a nine-game winning streak, which started with a 42-13 victory over the Panthers in Week 4. In 12 games, Drake Maye has tallied 3,130 yards and 21 TDs passing with a 71% pass completion rate. Both the Chiefs and the Ravens lost their Week 13 games. The Buffalo Bills will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.Josh Downs compares Patriots QB Drake Maye to Colts QB Daniel JonesJosh Downs played alongside Maye during his collegiate career with UNC before being drafted by the Colts in 2023. This season, he shares the field with quarterback Daniel Jones as the Colts fight for the AFC championship. On Friday, on Jordan Schultz's podcast, Josh Downs was asked to highlight the similarities between the Patriots quarterback and Jones."I'd say their competitive drive is very similar," Downs said. "When you see how they kind of like, will scramble and they'll put their body on the line. I think they're very similar in that manner and just how hard they work."They're athletic for sure, but they really will go all out there and run and do anything to get that first down. That's when you know you got a real competitor."Both Daniel Jones and Drake Maye are considered potential candidates for this season's MVP award. The Patriots will face the New York Giants on Monday at 8:15 p.m. ET.
