New York Jets owner Woody Johnson made the headlines last week following his public criticism of the performance of Justin Fields. He made a series of harsh comments about the quarterback at the NFL owners meeting, creating a frenzy among the media and fans.

Former Jets quarterback Jordan Travis waded into the issue on his podcast on Thursday, hitting out at Johnson. Travis cited his personal experience with troubling comments made by the owner to him during his rookie season with the franchise in 2024.

“That guy, no disrespect, but there were things that were said to me, not obviously to that point, because I never got on the field to play, but about my leg. Just slick comments," Travis said on the Travis Takes Two podcast.

“I don't know if he was trying to be slick about it, or how some older people they just kind of say whatever that comes to their mind, and it kind of made me feel a certain type of way. Not 'how you feeling?' Never that. There was always comments like that. It kind of upset me, but it kind of rolled over my head.”

The Jets selected Travis in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft following a severe injury that cut short his final college football season at Florida State. His rehabilitation ultimately failed, leading to his medical retirement earlier this year.

“It's been a lot for me, emotionally, spiritually," Fields said. "When I was on the field, I was damn near about to start crying."

Throwing for 244 yards and a touchdown in the game, Justin Fields turned the tables on his boss, making him eat his words. The quarterback, however, insisted that there was no satisfaction in the vindication.

"I get that he's the owner of the team, but that's outside noise," Fields said. "The biggest thing was my teammates still believing in me, my coaches still believing in me, and God."

Justin Fields will look to keep up the momentum in the next couple of weeks in a bid to retain the starting job. Many analysts believe this might be his last chance at holding a starting role for a team in the NFL.
