The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs met in Week 2 of the NFL season, and the two teams had much at stake on Sunday. The Chiefs were trying to avoid their first sequence of three straight losses with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback.

The game was a much closer contest than Super Bowl LIX right from the start. Both teams had dominant opening stands on defense and were able to keep the score close. Although the Eagles led for most of the game, they still couldn't put up a lot of points on the board.

However, the situation changed in the second half. With the Chiefs near the end zone, Travis Kelce couldn't haul in a pass near the goal line, and the play turned into an interception. Jalen Hurts later scored with a brotherly shove, and from there, the Philadelphia Eagles never looked back.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles game recap

It was not a pretty start to the game, with the first three drives ending in a punt and the fourth resulting in a missed field goal. Philadelphia scored the first touchdown of the game before the end of the first quarter, but consistency was lacking on both offenses.

Kansas City turned the game around with 10 straight points, but both teams were tied at halftime with another field goal from the visitors. Just three points were scored in the third quarter, with another field goal for the Eagles.

The Chiefs were en route to scoring their second touchdown of the game, but a Travis Kelce drop near the end zone turned into an interception, and a few plays later, the score was 20-10 for Philadelphia. Although they never scored again, their defense did just enough to close the game.

With the loss, Patrick Mahomes lost three straight games in his career for the first time. It is also the third straight victory for Philadelphia over Kansas City, going back to the 2023 season. It's also the first time in Mahomes' career that he's 0-2 to start the season.
