The Houston Texans will have a crucial matchup at the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday that could factor into their postseason hopes. However, they may have to make do without their offensive leader yet again.During a press conference on Monday, coach DeMeco Ryans provided this update on quarterback C.J. Stroud:“CJ & (safety) Jalen (Pitre) are still in the concussion protocol. Whenever CJ is back, ready to roll, he will be our starter. ... We’ll see what happens on Wednesday.”Stroud has not been seen since exiting the Texans' loss against the Denver Broncos in Week 9 early. Backup Davis Mills has since led the team to three straight wins, most recently against the Buffalo Bills last Thursday, during which he threw two touchdowns from 16 completions. After the game, Mills deferred to Stroud:“In my current situation I don’t think there’s a competition. CJ’s the starter for this team. I’m just doing everything I can to bring my best foot forward every day, make everyone else around me better, and try to play my role to my best ability when I get thrown in there.”Texans planning to carry over offensive line vs. Bills to Colts game, says HC DeMeco RyansThe offensive line had been touted as a potential weak point for the Texans in the offseason after they traded away starters Laremy Tunsil and Kenyon Green. That notion would be seemingly vindicated, as they gave up at least two sacks on C.J. Stroud in all games this season bar one.The tribulations continued with Davis Mills, who ate two upon being deployed vs. the Broncos. He ate six more in the next two games (four against the Tennessee Titans in particular), but his line stunningly held the Bills to zero. And this is encouraging to DeMeco Ryans, who said on Monday about his plans for who would be starting against the Colts:"We'll continue to roll with our offensive line. For me, it's always been about trying to get our best five guys out there."In particular, he praised holdover Tytus Howard for his versatility:"(He) has done a great job unselfishly moving where he's played right tackle, right guard, left guard, whatever we've asked him, he's done it. It shows that he's a smart player to be able to handle as much as we put on his plate. He's done that and he's played well for us."Kickoff for the Texans-Colts game is at 12 p.m. CT on CBS.
