This year’s Snowball Derby, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, December 7, has been pushed to Monday, December 8. It began raining early on Sunday and continued on and off throughout the afternoon. Soon, the officials at Five Flags Speedway made the call to postpone the race.Notably, this is the second time in the last four years that the annual Snowball Derby has been postponed. Several NASCAR drivers, including Ryan Preece and two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, are expected to enter what is going to be the 58th running of the crown jewel Super Late Model event.FloRacing’s Rob Blount reported the postponement through X.“Back again with another unfortunate weather update,” Blount said, “As you can see behind me…look at all that fog up there. We are not running the 58th annual Snowball Derby as scheduled on Sunday, December 7. It will now be (on) Monday, December 8 with the green flag scheduled for 1 pm CT.”While Busch somehow managed to make his way in through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ), his Cup Series colleagues and fellow Snowball Derby contenders Noah Gragson and Erik Jones failed to qualify for the main event. In fact, Gragson’s bid to win his second Tom Dawson trophy ended before the LCQ even began.Veteran driver Preston Peltier won the pole for the event after skipping it last year. He pulled off an impressive 16.240-second lap, which earned him his second career pole in the 300-lap finale.“I had a perfect car and a good crew,” he said. “All the puzzle pieces are here. I’ve never had a problem going fast for a couple laps, but I’m trying not to get too excited. Let’s see how I feel after 300 (laps) on Sunday.”Fans can watch the race live on FloRacing or stream it on Roku, Fire TV, Chromecast & Apple TV. All other races that were previously scheduled for Monday will now be held on Tuesday, December 9.NASCAR driver Erik Jones “really disappointed” after dismal Snowball Derby qualifyingNASCAR Cup Series regular Erik Jones, who drives the No. 43 Toyota Camry XSE for Legacy Motor Club full-time, will not enter Monday’s main event. Inclement weather left the track tricky, slick and unpredictable, which in turn, made it difficult for the drivers to pack speed in their cars.Jones announced took the same on X.“Really disappointed we won't be in the main #SnowballDerby show later today. Went out to qualify right after the caution and the track just was not there for the speed we had,” the driver wrote. “Tried to dig out of it in the LCQ but ran out of laps with the shortened race. Hate it for the guys who came out to help this week.”Jones' fellow Snowball Derby contender Noah Gragson was also ousted from contention due to unspecified mechanical issues with his car.
